Genji

Overview

After being given the name Genji Shimada at birth, he became the youngest child of the Shimada clan – a formidable group of offenders and hitmen located in Japan. Although it was expected that Genji would follow in his family’s criminal footsteps, he was uninterested in a life consumed by wickedness and brutality. Instead, he turned against his family, and disassociated himself from them to discover a new path in life.

Shortly after, Overwatch’s commanding officer, Jack Morrison (who was also known by his moniker, Soldier: 76), welcomed Genji into the team, training him and helping him to master his abilities as a ninja. However, during one of their missions, Genji suffered from fatal injuries inflicted by his own flesh and blood – his brother, Hanzo Shimada. Despite being left to die, Genji was rescued by Overwatch’s head of medical research, Dr. Angela Ziegler (otherwise known as Mercy), who rebuilt him into a cyborg to save his life.

Genji struggled to come to terms with his new identity and purpose as a cyborg, leading him to leave Overwatch and embark on a personal journey to discover his purpose. During this time, he came across Zenyatta, a knowledgeable and spiritual omnic (a type of sentient robot), who imparted to him the importance of inner peace and balance. Under Zenyatta’s guidance, Genji found a new sense of purpose as a hero, leading him to rejoin Overwatch.

Damage Role

Primary Weapon: Shuriken

• Genji’s primary weapon, Shuriken, lets him quickly fire three throwing stars in a burst or throw them individually for more accuracy. The Shuriken’s have no fall off damage so its used to poke out the enemy or burst at close range.

Secondary Ability: Deflect

• Genji’s Deflect lets him deflect incoming projectiles back at where he’s aiming. This makes him tricky to duel especially against heroes with high burst damage or ultimates, such as Widowmaker or Hanzo.

Mobility Ability: Swift Strike

• Genji’s Swift Strike is a quick dash that lets him to move through enemies and deal damage to them. It can be used to quickly reposition or to finish off kills. When enemies are eliminated, its cooldown is reset, letting Genji get a reset on Swift Strike.

Utility Ability: Cyber-Agility

• Genji’s Cyber-Agility gives him increased mobility and agility it also lets him double jump and climb walls. This makes him harder to hit and helps him get to different places on the map easier than other heroes.

Ultimate Ability: Dragonblade

• Genji’s ultimate, Dragonblade, pulls a powerful sword and gives him increased movement speed. he can slash multiple targets that deals a lot of damage to enemies. Dragonblade lasts for 6 seconds but is very strong when used correctly and combod properly.
